The saying goes, “You can’t spell elite without Eli.”For Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, the career of Giants quarterback Eli Manning might just land him in Canton someday among some elite pretty elite company.

The career of Manning, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback of the New York Giants, is often scrutinized. This is in part due to the success of his older brother, arguably the best quarterback of all-time (whose name escapes us right now but he’s really, really good). The younger brother suffers by comparison. By numbers alone, though, the Giants’ QB is pretty good in his own right.

Eli is currently No. 11 in all-time passing yards and will likely be seventh by the end of the season in passing touchdowns, what would be one spot ahead of John Elway. He also is a two-time Super Bowl MVP with two championship rings. He is at or near the top of nearly every statistical record in Giants franchise history.

“The fact that he’s won two Super Bowls, he definitely has a shot. I don’t vote, [but] he definitely has a shot of getting in there,” Marino told Metro. “As time goes on, the longer he plays, the better the opportunity he has.”

The 2005 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee spoke at an event at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Englewood, N.J.. Marino is a co-owner of the chain along, with founder Anthony Bruno.

Along with their famous wings, he said that the aptly named “Eggplant Marino”is his favorite menu item. The restaurant has nine locations in New Jersey.

Manning did not play on Friday night in the Giants preseason opener.
