Everything you need to know about escaped cons David Sweat and Richard Matt

Jailbreakers David Sweat and Richard Matt have been on the run for four days now, after breaking out of Clinton Correctional Facility like it was nobody’s business this weekend.

There’s a lot of information going around about these two men and a whole lot of questions to boot.

For instance “Who are these dudes?” “What did they do?” “Does one really have a huge penis?”

Here’s literally everything you need to know.

The Prisoners: Richard Matt and David Sweat

Former prisoners, and current runaways, Richard Matt and David Sweat broke out of Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York this weekend.

Here’s what we know about them:

First there’s David Sweat, 34, who has one of the most unfortunate names we have ever come across. Prior to his escape Sweat was serving a life sentence in prison after shooting a sheriff to death.

Sweat stands at 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 165 pounds. He reportedly has “Rebel” tastefully tattooed on his bicep and IFB on his fingers.

We’re not sure what IFB stands for (Google says it could stand for “independent fashion blogger,” so there’s that).

Then there’s Richard Matt, 48, who is without a doubt the much more interesting of the two.

Matt, who was also known as “Hacksaw” in the slammer, stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 210 pounds, and features several tattoos (one of which reads “Mexico Forever”).

Matt is credited for two murders, one of which involved torturing and dismembering his former boss, thus the lovely “hacksaw” nickname.

In addition to his criminal background, Matt is reported to be a “fantastic” artist. According to The Daily Beast,his specialty was drawing portraits of Oprah.

But what is perhaps most interesting about Matt, aside from his murdering, escaping and apparently fantastic drawings of a media mogul, is his supposedly huge penis.

The New York Post reports:

“Retired Detective David Bentley, who helped put away Matt for the 1997 murder of a North Tonawanda businessman, added, “When [Matt’s] cleaned up, he’s very handsome and, in all frankness, very well-endowed. He gets girlfriends any place he goes.”

Fantastic.

The escape: a story straight out of Hollywood

Both Matt and Sweat were reportedly privileged prisoners who resided in what’s been described as the prison’s “honor block.” The honor block was where well-behaved inmates had more liberties, such as visiting other prison cells and cooking.

The New York Daily News reports (using an unnamed source) that the duo plotted their escape while sewing Metro-North Uniforms in the prison tailor shop. The Daily News is the only news outlet who reports this detail.

Prison officials are reportedly interviewing all those employed by the prison to find out who exactly helped Sweat and Matt escape.

The AlbanyTImes Union reports that Sweat and David acquired power tools that were used for their escape from “a female civilian employee who had developed a personal relationship with Matt and smuggled the tool into the prison.”

CNN reports that the female prison worker who may have helped Matt and Sweat is named Joyce Mitchell.

“Investigators think a woman who worked with Richard Matt and David Sweat at the Clinton Correctional Facility planned to pick the convicted killers up after they escaped but changed her mind at the last minute,” a source familiar with the investigation tells CNN.

Mitchell however, CNN reports, checked herself into a hospital because of a panic attack and has not been charged.

On the night of their escape the duo used a pair of decoys to fool guards during bed checks. They then climbed through the man-sized holes in their walls and made their way through a grand labyrinth of catwalks, pipes and tunnels before eventually emerging from a manhole far away from the prison.

Where are they now?

Sweat and Matt have been on the lam for four days now.

The search was focused on a the small town of Willsboro that sits near the border of Canada.The search however turned up nothing.

NBC reports:

“Law enforcement officials told NBC News the swarm descended on the town after they got a specific tip from the Willsboro area, which is across Lake Champlain from Burlington, Vermont, and about 40 miles southeast of Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, from which the men escaped overnight Friday.

“By late Tuesday, most of them had left empty-handed. NBC station WPTZ of Plattsburgh, New York, reported Tuesday night that the focus of the search had returned to Dannemora.”

For now it seems as though “Hacksaw” (along with his giant penis and artistry) and his horribly named acomplice, Sweat, have managed to evade law enforcement.
