With the highly-anticipated MLS debuts last week of English imports and midfielders Steven Gerrard (Galaxy) and Frank Lampard (New York FC), that had to be opening eyes around Barclays Premier League in England.

Another huge name that is contemplating a move to the States is free agent striker Didier Drogba, formerly of Chelsea, where he was a teammate of Lampard for many-+9* successful seasons.

ESPN FC’s Jeffrey Carlisle reported that the Chicago Fire made a contract offer (18 months, $2.5 million per year) to the 37-year-old Ivorian legend with TSN in Canada also noting that the Montreal Impact are in the mix as well. Apparently an unknown Qatari club is in the running too.

Drogba made his name at Chelsea (4 BPL titles, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 1 Champions League) but he had short and forgettable stays in China (Shanghai Shenhua) and Turkey (Galatasaray). He returned to London last summer and scored seven goals in 38 appearances (12 starts) for the runaway BPL champions.

He has retired from international play but Drogba is still Ivory Coast’s all—time leading scorer with 65 goals in 104 career appearances. He led them to the last three World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
