East Village explosion victim keeps sense of humor in recovery

One survivor of Thursday’s East Village explosion managed to still crack a joke, even from her hospital bed. A Reddit user who claims to be the brother of one of the hospitalized victims posted a photo of his sister.

User Thomasgee wrote, “My sister was in the building that exploded in NYC today. Broken nose, broken ribs, perforated lung, and she still has her sense of humor,” and posted a photo of the young woman’s swollen face next to a character from “Avatar” as a side-by-side.

He said his sister was the young woman who went on a lunch date with missing man Nicholas Figueroa. His posts have since been deleted, but he also wrote that his sister said, “She saw people running in and out of the restaurant before it went down.”

He said his sister is still keeping her head up. “She’s having another X-ray done,” he wrote. “It’s to look at the blood clot and perforated lung.”
