Federal Monitor Peter Zimroth is calling for an expanded test of technology that would include equipping about 1,000 police officers with body cameras, the Daily News reports.

Zimroth submitted his first report to Manhattan Federal Judge Analisa Torres. He envisions a focus on 40 precincts with the highest rates of Civilian Complaint Review Board Filings.

Zimroth and his monitoring team plan to track what happens when 50 officers from half the station houses are sent on patrol wearing the body cameras while other officers cover the same night shift patrol without them.

The team will track what happens in both sets of precincts including numbers on office injuries, use of force, resisting arrest and CCRB complaints.

Right now, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton is testing out body cameras and looking to add as many as 5,000 more.
