A woman has died and an off-duty NYPD officer was seriously injured in a crash on City Island Road in the Bronx, officials said.

According to police, the 2012 Dodge Charger the two were riding in overturned and caught fire late Wednesday night.

Two off-duty police officers, who had just ended their shift on City Island right before the single-vehicle accident, happened upon the scene and were able to pull the male victim from the vehicle, CBS New York reported.

They were unable to rescue the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither victim has been identified. The officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition and is being treated for trauma and severe burns to his legs.

The two other officers were also taken to Jacobi to be treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
