Get horizontal in Times Square’s new XXX loungers

Get XXX-cited for what’s about to arrive in Times Square.

You won’t actually find anything R-rated at XXX Times Square With Love, the new public art installation by architect Juergen Mayer H. — but you can lay down in it. Inspired by the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue dubbed the Crossroads of the World, the installation is composed simply of three X-shaped lounge chairs, each leg of which serves as a place for someone to lie back, relax and snap Insta-worthy pics of the sky and tops of buildings above.

The name does wink at Times Square’s past, which was even less savory than being the city’s biggest tourist destination: For much of the last century, it was a hub of prostitution and brothels.

“Mayer H. delivered for us a striking and original street furniture design that not only references Times Square’s X-rated history, but also offers users a very different way of looking at and sharing a place that, on average, is posted on Instagram no fewer than 17,000 times a day,” says Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance. “In pedestrian plazas that can be overwhelming at times, XXX offers a clever and calming way to experience them that is new, while referencing the old.”
