The Islanders held a 4-3 lead with under a minute left in regulation Tuesday at Barclays Center but Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherovscored at the 19:21 mark to send Game 3 of the semi-final series to OT. In the extra session, Brian Boyle beat Thomas Greiss top-shelf and the Lightning took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 4 is Friday (7 p.m., NBCSN) in Brooklyn.

The Islanders exhausted themselves as they overcame an early deficit, tying the game at 2 in the second period when Nick Leddy beat Ben Bishop (35saves). Cal Clutterbuck’sscore midway through the third period off a Tampa Bay turnover looked as though it was going to be the game-winner before Kucherov’s strike.

Greiss made 36 saves in net for the Isles.
