The Jets are hoping to see Leger Douzable do a little dance and take down a quarterback on Monday night. Not necessarily in that order.

It is a good time for New York when it sees Douzable , a defensive end now in his seventh year in the league and in his second season with the Jets, doing a dance in the backfield. Douzable has developed a bit of a cult following during his time in New York for his enthusiastic sack dances, something enthusiastically followed and debated by fans on Twitter (# DouzableDance ). And while the moves may not be quite as manic as Mark Gastineau’s efforts, they are inspiring and certainly genuine.

During the Week 10 win over the Steelers, Douzable unleashed his latest celebratory effort, this one a take on the ‘ Shmoney Dance.’ Last Monday he got a half-sack in a blowout loss to the Bills and kept his celebration muted.

But if this Monday night sees dancing with Douzable then the Jets are doing something right. He admits that his ever-changing dance moves are something he thinks about.

“A little bit of both, I’m not going to lie to you,” Douzable told Metro. “It’s called the Shmoney Dance, it’s big in Brooklyn. The idea is to have some fun, enjoy the moment just a little bit.

“It’s just a fun dance, you can do it to different songs. It’s mainly just hop motions and arm movements. It’s kind of like the two-step. You enjoy the moment, you want to celebrate. Yea, it’s something you think about a little so you’re ready for moment. But you play hard and practice hard so you have that moment.”

So far this year, Douzable has been solid for the Jets. He is disciplined in his gap assignments and he has 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks in a platoon role along a deep and talented defensive line. The next time he has a sack, he says, he might just bust out something different.

The ‘ Shmoney Dance’ originated this summer from Brooklyn-based rapper Bobby Shmurda . In a few short seconds on one of his videos, he tosses his blue Knicks baseball cap in the air, turns his back to the camera and begins to shimmy with his arms and legs. The sensation has taken off, to the point where there are 6.7 million views of the song’s official release on YouTube.

Against the Dolphins on Monday night, it will likely be Douzable who will be called on to get some extra reps with All-Pro defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson sidelined with a toe injury. After being a low-key free agent signing two summers ago, Douzable grew into a larger role a season ago, especially late in the year. His breakout performance came in Week 16 in a win over the Browns where had five tackles and a sack.

And of course, there was a sack dance, the first time that Jets fans would coin his exclamation point celebration the ‘ Douzable Dance.’

“First I hit them with the Nay Nay, I try to do something different each time I’m out there,” Douzable told Metro. “Keep it real, keep it fun. Enjoy the moment but give something different to my teammates, the fans out there.

“We feed off each other on the line, we push each other. Someone has a play and we’re like ‘Where have you been? About time you show up.’ We’re always pushing each other, it’s competitive, so it’s good to have some fun … Whatever happens, happens. But when I get a sack, I want to enjoy it.”
