After a second day of training camp where he shone, the bad news of Devin Smith’s rib injury hurt a New York Jets team that was counting on this rookie wide receiver to provide some playmaking ability. Smith was injured on a bit of a bang-bang play with safety Jaiquawn Jarrett in what originally looked like a shot to the head. Instead, it will be broken ribs.
A team spokesman said that Smith will be in the hospital on Friday night as a precaution.
The team’s second round pick, Smith will miss the majority of training camp with the injury. A team source said there is optimism that Smith will be able to participate in at least a portion of preseason games.
