Wahl Home Products, makers of facial grooming tools for men, have announced an essential top twenty list you can’t live without — the top twenty cities friendly to facial hair. You might think New York doesn’t earn a mention, perhaps due to all those financiers in Lower Manhattan who have traditional grooming standards to follow at work. But no fear, Brooklyn hipsters are pulling their weight; New York comes in eighth on the list.

What exactly makes a city facial hair friendly? We’re not sure, it could be a good climate for growing flowers to stick in your beard, as so colorfully illustrated here by BuzzFeed. Or it could be a healthy population of beard lovers, all the better for your dating life. Just remember to keep the facial hair tidy, some experts say beards can turn into bacterial sponges, collecting dirt and germs from your hands and can even harbor rancid dairy products.

To that end, Wahl is offering free facial hair grooming Friday in Times Square at 42nd St. and 7th Ave. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For every trim performed by master barbers in the 30-foot mobile barbershop, Wahl will donate $1 to ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer.
