Man arrested for over $13,500 in back tolls, fees: Police

A Millville, New Jersey, man is under arrest after Port Authority policesaid a records check revealed he was driving with a suspended license and over $13,500 in back tolls and fees.

Melvin Ralph, 44, was pulled over while driving a white tractor trailer from Elizabeth, New Jersey into Staten Island across the Goethals Bridge late Wednesday morning, according to police.

An officer said he observed Ralph driving with a bent front license plate, in an apparent attempt to avoid detection at the tolls, and pulled him over. It was then he discovered the fees and suspended license on Ralph’s record, authorities said.

At least 71 of the violations on Ralph’s recordwere related to Staten Island crossings, police said.

Ralph’s car was impounded and he was taken into custody. He now faces larceny and aggravated unlicensed driving charges.
