A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday in connection with a knifepoint rape after police said he called 911 a few hours afterwards, allegedly making irrational statements and later asking officers for a ride.
Michael Mann, 52, now faces charges of rape, robbery and several sex offender registry violations.
Police who responded to Mann’s 911 call said they realized his clothing matched the description of a suspect who had attacked a woman in Bushwick only hours before, according to the New York Daily News.
That victim told police that she was walking to her home just before 3 a.m. when she was approached by a man who displayed a knife. He robbed the woman and proceeded to sexually assault her, according to an NYPD statement. He threatened to kill her if she told police, the Daily News added.
Mann was convicted of raping a woman at gunpoint in 1985, prompting his status as a registered sex offender, according to the Daily News report.
His next date in court was not immediately available.
