An elderly man died after jumping from the Staten Island Mall’s second floor in an apparent suicide.
The victim, 84, whose identity has not been released, according to the New York Daily News, was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North where he later died.
Around 11:19 a.m. on Tuesday, the man allegedly pushed a chair close to the railing near the Torrid clothing store on the upper level and jumped over, landing in front of the Gap, the Staten Island Advance reported. A large number of FDNY and NYPD officials responded to the mall.
By the Gap, a pool of blood had formed, which authorities roped off with yellow tape along with the chair next to the railing on the second floor, the Advance reported.
