Man gets 15 years for shooting Bronx cabbie

A Bronx man known by the street name “Cookie” has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting a livery cab driver two years ago.

Christian Emanuel-Womack, 23, will serve five years of post-release supervision for his sentence of second-degree attempted murder, according to the Bronx DA’s office.

Emanuel-Womack shot the driver at the corner of White Plains Road and Lafayette Avenue in the Bronx around 5 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2012.

Driver Julian Martinez, a father of three, had just started his shift when Emanuel-Womack got in his car, mumbled something and shot him in the shoulder. Martinez was shot again in the abdomen as he fled across the street. The incident was captured by the cab’s security camera.

In a plea deal, Emanuel-Womack pleaded guilty to the highest charge of attempted murder, and was sentenced on Wednesday.
