The NYPD said it took a man into custody Saturday in connection with the strange case of a man seen wheeling around a dead body on a dolly in Staten Island Friday morning.

While a statement from the NYPD did not identify the person taken into custody, an earlier advisory from the department said investigators were looking for Anthony Lopez, 31, in connection with the sighting, and the New York Daily News reported that it was indeed Lopez taken into custody in East Harlem Saturday.

The chief of detectives told the paper that Lopez shaved his head and took other steps at altering his appearance after a picture of him was circulated by authorities this week. An anonymous tip from the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline reportedly led to Lopez’s arrest.

Lopez was allegedly seen carting around a dead body — later identified as his wife, Aduba Obiamaka, 26, of Staten Island — after he was spotted by an passerby around 7 a.m. near 42 Post Lane.

When approached by police, Lopez allegedly ran. The responding officer said he recognized him from a previous arrest.

Lopez was arrested more than 50 times for drugs and other violent crimes, according to the Daily News report.
