A man jumped off an overpass in northern New Jersey with his two young sons in his arms on Monday, killing himself and injuring the children, police said.

The man, who was not identified, intentionally jumped from an Interstate 287 overpass into a wooded area near the Wanaque River in Wanaque Township at about 8 p.m., New Jersey State Police said in a news release.

The man, whose identity wasn't disclosed by police, was found dead at the scene.

His sons, ages 1 and 3, suffered concussions and the youngest son had a bruised lung, police said.

About an hour before the man jumped, a woman called Pequannock police to report that her husband had threatened to harm the children. State police were then able to locate the man using the GPS on his cellphone.
