Man rapes woman, robs second in Coney Island crime spree

A man raped and robbed a woman in a Coney Island building at gunpoint before robbing a second woman an hour later, police said.

A 20-year-old woman was followed into an elevator by the suspect at about 9 p.m. Sunday, and when she exited at her floor, he grabbed her from behind and pulled out a gun, cops said. He then pulled the victim into a stairwell where he raped her, and removed her cash and keys before fleeing down the stairs.

The victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital for evaluation.

About an hour later, a 46-year-old woman and the suspect exited an elevator of a residential building at 2885 West 12th St., also in Coney Island, police said. The suspect followed the victim out of the elevator, whipped out a gun and took $30 from her handbag before fleeing. The victim was not injured.

Police have released video footage from the rape and photo of the suspect from the robbery. He is described as black and about 20-years-old, with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black and white skull hat, a black leather jacket, gray sweatpants and white sneakers, and was holding a black bag.
