One of a Harlem barbershop’s regular customers was ambushed and shot while waiting for a chair to open up to get a cut.

A gunman entered the Wilton Beauty Salon and Barber Shop near Amsterdam Avenue and West 140th Street just after 10 p.m. on Thursday and shot a waiting customer in the neck, the New York Daily News has reported.

“[The gunman] just walked inside and started shooting. Two shots, Boom boom! The bullet went in his neck and out his mouth,” barber Fantel Marte was quoted by the Daily News. “[The victim] wasn’t going down that way. He ran outside to get a cab.”

Instead of in a taxi, the victim was taken by medical personnel to St. Luke’s Hospital in serious condition, the Daily News added.

Police told CBS2 that there had been a dispute before the gunman opened fire.
