Police are searching for a gunman they say shot a man sitting in his car Sunday morning in Chelsea.

The incident happened around 5:40 a.m. Sunday near Cafeteria restaurant located on West 17th Street.

According to ABC7, a 27-year-old man told police he was sitting in his red Bentley coupe when he felt pain in his upper body.  He was shot once in the shoulder.

Witnesses in the area said they saw a gray-colored car taking off from the scene, possibly a Mercedes. 

The victim, Garry Rey, was taken to Bellevue and is expected to survive, according to police.

Police are investigating.
