Men in nighttime Hudson River rescue seemed drunk: Officials

Two men rescued by authorities after they had ended up in the Hudson River on Wednesday night appeared to be intoxicated.

Two men who had tied a boat to a dock at the 79thStreet Boat Basin allegedly jumped into the water to go swimming before getting in trouble and needing to be rescued, CBS2 reported.

A Boat Basin restaurant customer called 911 and stated that the two men appeared to be drowning in the river, according to NBC4, which added that the subsequent nighttime rescue involving helicopters was watched by Boat Basin diners.

“I saw two helicopters. One was moving around; one was stationary. … Then the ambulances came as well,” witness Keith Faria said to NBC4.

The men were finally pulled from the river just before 9 p.m., officials said to CBS2, adding that they were evaluated at the scene.

The duo was then taken to Mt. Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to NBC4.
