Missing Connecticut man found dead in suitcase in NJ: Reports

A body found in a suitcase in New Jersey has been identified as a Connecticut man who was last seen at a party in Midtown.

According to published reports, the body appears to be that of Joseph Comunale, 26, of Stamford. It was found Wednesday in Oceanport in Central New Jersey. The body had multiple stab wounds and might have been “chopped,” according to PIX11.

A person of interest was taken into custody, held on a suspended license charge, according to reports. No arrests have been made.

Comunale was last seen Saturday night in the Sutton Place neighborhood at a party inside a luxury highrise apartment at 418 E. 59th St. There were also reports that Comunale exited the building, which is near First Avenue, then was seen on surveillance video returning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Later that evening, at around 6:30 p.m., the party’s host reportedly called down to the front desk for a luggage cart and was seen on surveillance video wheeling the cart and two large suitcases, according to theNew York Daily News.

The same host also reportedly asked a building employee how long surveillance video is kept before it is erased or taped over.

Comunale’sfather reported his son missing Sunday night, while someone called police to report”suspicious activity” in the building that same evening.

Authorities found a bag of bloody clothes early Wednesday that they suspect belonged to Comunale, the Post reported.

Sources told PIX11 that police dogs found blood-stained clothes and bloody rags in the common area of the apartment.

The Hofstra University graduate, who workedas a sales associate at Tri-Ed Ltd., was with friends and visiting the son of a well-known jeweler, the New York Post reported.

The son, James Rackover, hired a lawyer after being questioned by police Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported.

The father, Jeffery Rackover, counts celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez and Melania Trump among his clients. His diamond shop is on East 48th Street and Fifth Avenue.
