Nearly 90 animals found in squalid conditions in W. New York apartment

Over 80 cats and a ten dogs were recovered from inside stacked cages, hidden inside a room in a West New York apartment, police there said.

Investigators reportedly described the scene inside the 52nd Street home as a “house of horrors,” and said they found cages stacked floor-to-ceiling along a 12-foot wall. Ten dogs were found hiding in closets.

Three women, whose names have not yet been released, are reportedly under investigation for animal cruelty.

A neighbor reported a stench odor coming from a nearby apartment, and responding animal control officers said they found “horrific, deplorable” conditions inside, West New York Commissioner Susan Colacurcio told 4 NBC News.

It’s not clear how many of the animals can be saved, according to the report.
