Authorities are battling two New Jersey brush fires that are disrupting afternoon rail service around New York City.
Around noon on Tuesday, two brush fires started in northern New Jersey, ABC7 reported, stating that one began in Kearny and the other in Secaucus. RELATED:NJ warehouse fire closes schools, can be seen for miles Midtown Direct service from Newark Penn Station to New York Penn Station was diverted because of the smoke, NBC4 reported, adding that trains had been rerouted to Hoboken. Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor service between New York City and Newark has also been suspended, ABC7 stated. Amtrak has said it will restore service when conditions are safe enough.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning until 8 p.m. for New York and its surrounding area, stating that conditions are ideal for fire to spread rapidly, NBC4 added.
