A Bronx woman whose dog was shot and killed by an NYPD officer has filed a notice of claim for a lawsuit against the city as video of the incident has now surfaced.
On Feb. 13, Yvonne Rosado’s 4-year-old dog Spike was shot in the head and killed by an NYPD officer inquiring about a domestic violence call at a nearby apartment in her East 183rd Street building, the New York Daily News has reported.
“The officer just reacted badly,” Rosado was quoted by the Daily News. “I was screaming, ‘He’s friendly! He’s friendly!’ But he still did that to my dog.”
After the officer had knocked on Rosado’s door, Spike exited, tail wagging, and the officer backed down a stairwell, gun drawn, the Daily Mail reported in a related article. He then shot the dog, killing it with a single shot to the head.
