Police in Brooklyn seized an unloaded semiautomatic handgun and two magazines from a teenager at a middle school, according to multiple reports.

The student, a young boy who has not been identified, admitted to educators he brought the firearm to the Dr. Gladstone H. Atwell Middle School and had been in conflict with people near the school, according to the New York Times.

“There is zero tolerance for weapons of any kind, and nothing is more important than the safety of all students and staff,” Toya Holness, spokeswoman for the NYC Education Department said in a statement to the Times. “Families will be notified, and we are providing additional supports to the school community.”

It was the third time a student was caught with a gun at a New York City school in a week.
