New York City summer music festival guide

Whether you want to rock out with thousands of other people to some of the biggest names on the charts or are just looking for something free and low-key to do, here are the biggest music events going on in New York City this summer.

Electric Daisy Carnival
Dates: May 23-24
Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
Ticket prices: $199 for 2-Day pass

Electric Daisy Carnival is definitely the summer’s wildest dance party. This year’s headliners include Tiesto, Afrojack, Armin Van Buuren, Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix, Kaskade, Nicky Romero…The list of EDM heavy hitters goes on and on.

Central ParkSummerStage
Dates: Now-Oct. 4
Location: Central Park
Free

This year, the freeconcerts in the park are drawing big names like The Kooks, Ingrid Michaelson, Guster and Father John Misty, but if you are into something more niche, chances are there’s a show for you, too. From African music, classical to kids tunes, there really is something for everyone. CentralPark.com

With a diverse mix of hip-hop (Drake), rock (The Black Keys), pop (Charli XCX), EDM (Flume), and alternative music (Florence + The Machine), Governors Ball has something for everyone. Also not to miss are this year’s after-parties, which will be happening all across Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The Red Hook Fest
Dates: June 4-6
Location: Valentino Park & Pier
Free

If you’re looking for something you can bring the whole family to, mark your calendar for The Red Hook Fest. There will be music and dance concerts featuring local musicians, face-painting and even kayak rides — all for free.

Jazz Age Lawn Party
Dates: June 13-14
Location: Governors Island
Ticket prices: $35 for general admission

The Jazz Age Lawn Party is just as much about the fashion as the music, so plan your outfit accordingly. Governors Island is transformed to resemble the Roaring ‘20s with several local jazz bands taking the stage.

New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks
Dates: June 17-23
Free

Romantic date alert. The New York Philharmonic will be making the city seem even more movie-like by playing free concerts in Central Park, Prospect Park, Cunningham Park and Van Cortlandt Park.

Make Music New York
Date: June 21
Location: Various locations in all five boroughs
Free

Talk about taking music to the streets. Make Music New York features over 1,300 concerts taking over the streets, sidewalks and parks in all five boroughs, making it t he largest music festival to ever hit the city. All you have to do is walk outside and you’re sure to come across something exciting.
