Authorities are investigating a Sunday night double shooting in an apartment near Rutgers University’sNewark campus that left a student dead and two suspects at large.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in a residence at 28 Central Ave., Pix11 reported, adding that Rutgers said the shooting was not random, and the school community has not received any safety threats.

The second victim, who has been taken to a hospital for treatment, was not associated with the university, The Associated Press reported. Authorities have not identified the victims.

Two suspects, both appearing to be about 20 years old, fled on foot on Halsey Street after the incident, Pix11 added. Both were approximately 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds.

The Newark and Rutgers police departments, as well as the Essex County Prosecutors Office, were continuing to investigate the shooting on Monday, according to Pix11.
