A manhole fire at Grand Army Plaza was behind an early-morning power outage that made a mess of the morning commute for many New Yorkers Thursday.

By 7:30 a.m., the MTA reported that 2, 3, 4, and 5 subway service had resumed, but the damage was done.

Lines to get into the subways snaked around some blocks and platforms were packed.

Before then, subway riders were being directed to use other lines to travel to and from Manhattan.

“The delays on the 4 and 5 this morning were due to a Con Ed manhole fire in Brooklyn that knocked out power to signals between Eastern Parkway and Grand Army Plaza,” MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said.
