Talk about a lot of firepower.
The day after the New York state Attorney General’s Office released an interactive tool that tracks the origin of crime guns recovered by law enforcement in the state, NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill announced plans to destroy such weapons. “These guns will never be in circulation again to hurt someone,” O’Neill said, according to the department’s Twitter account, adding, “If you’re carrying an illegal gun in NYC, we’re going to find you, lock you up and you’re going to do some time.”
