Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton touted the NYPD's Summer All Out initiative in the Bronx on Wednesday, saying the extra officers have lead to a 29-percent drop in high crime in the city's toughest precincts.

The summer program started a month earlier than 2014, reassigning 330 more officers from desk duty to patrol in 10 high-crime areas of the city in the evenings and overnight.

Since June 8, there were 39 shooting incidents in the 10 precincts participating in Summer All Out, compared to 55 during the same period in 2014. The mayor and commissioner announced the numbers at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx's 47th Precinct, which saw a 70-percent drop in shootings since the program started last month.
