Police are looking for a gunman who allegedly shot at a plainclothes sergeant and police officer in Far Rockaway early Sunday. 

The officers were patrolling the Redfern Houses at 14-30 Redfern Ave. when they began following a group of six men at the public housing complex. When they left their unmarked car, an unidentified man across the street shot at the officers three times before fleeing, police said.

The police officers were not hit, and did not return fire. Both were treated for minor injuries at Long Island Jewish Hospital and released. 

Investigating officers found three 9mm shell casings but did not find a gun, police said. 

The alleged shooter is described as a black male who was wearing a dark colored hoodie during the encounter.
