NYPD seeks Lower East Side rape suspect

Cops are on the lookout for a man who followed a woman into a Manhattan apartment building and assaulted her early Sunday.

The 22-year-old woman walked into an apartment building on East 6th Street when an unidentified man followed her through the front door at around 6 a.m.

The man then grabbed the woman while she was still in the stairwell, and sexually assaulted her, before fleeing on foot.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage of the man thought to be the assailant. He is only identified as a dark-skinned male, approximately 25 years old and described as about 180 pounds.

He was last seen with short hair and wearing a dark baseball cap, black bubble jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.
