Police are investigating a shooting in the Edgemere neighborhood of Queens that nearly took the lives of a woman and two toddlers.

ABC7 reported that the woman was driving the children, a 1-year-old girl and a 4-month-old boy, on Beach 54th St. when multiple gunshots rang out. One of the bullets reportedly shattered the car's back window and lodged in the front seat.

There were no injuries but the children were taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to ABC7.

The driver, Miriam Thomas, told NBC4 that she heard "a lot of shots" as she was at a traffic light. She reportedly said at the scene that the 1-year-old is her granddaughter.

Police said the shots appear to have come from a nearby housing complex, and apparently from the roof, NBC4 reported. They searched the rooftops for the suspect but no arrests have been made.
