About 10 protesters were arrested Wednesday morning for blocking traffic on the upper lanes of the George Washington Bridge into the city, PIX 11 reported.

The demonstrators, part of the Laundry Worker Center’s #WeAreVisible movement that demands equal rights for immigrants, held a large banner that read, “Resist, organized, rise up!” Fox 5 reported, adding that the protesters chained themselves to the bridge.

The upper level of the GWB was closed entirely during the protest, according to the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Twitter account. The department also tweeted that city-bound commuters could expect “abnormal delays” during the incident.

The Laundry Workers Center “addresses the need for community-based leadership development geared toward improving the living and working conditions of workers in the laundry, warehouse and food service industries, as well as their families,” according to its website.
