Tragedy struck the Flushing neighborhood of Queens earlier this week when a 49-year-old man brutally attacked his own family before attempting to take his own life.

At around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday night, Quan Hui-Lang bludgeoned his 7-year-old son with a barbell, hitting him three times on the top of his head and cracking his skull, before going on to beat the boy’s mother – Liang’s wife – and leaving her with two broken eye sockets, missing teeth and cuts to her head.

Liang also hit his mother-in-law, who discovered the family patriarch in the midst of his ballistic spree. Before police arrived, Liang slit his own neck with a 12-inch blade in an apparent suicide attempt.

With the son undergoing surgery at Long Island City Jewish Hospital and his mother and grandmother being treated at the New York Hospital Queens, all three victims are in stable condition. Their attacker remains in critical condition following the self-inflicted throat slashing.
