Rikers inmate indicted on attempted rape charges

A man accused of attacking and forcing himself on a Rikers Island corrections officer in February has been indicted on charges of attempted rape.

Raleek Young, 26, was on Rikers after allegedly violating his release terms from a 2007 sex crime. He is accused of breaking into an office and forcing the victim into a bathroom, where he groped her. The corrections officer used her riot alarm and sprayed Young with chemical spray.

She was treated for bruising and psychological trauma after the attack, according to the Bronx DA’s office.

A grand jury indicted Young on charges of attempted rape, sexual abuse and forcible touching on Tuesday. He will be arraigned on April 7, and faces up to 15 years if convicted.
