Snowstorm set to hit New York on Super Bowl Sunday

New Yorkers beware: a snowstorm could ruin your Super Bowl plans.

The city is preparing for five to eight inches of snow through Monday. The storm is expected to start Sunday evening, with snow falling up one to two inches an hour late in the evening.

The National Weather Service is warning of hazardous travel conditions due to the snow and reduced visibility.

The snow is expected to turn to a mix of snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain during the early morning hours on Monday.

“We’re looking at a messy morning commute, if anyone wants to bother commuting. It’s not a good idea,” said John Cristantello, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Cristantello said up to a 1.4 inch of ice could form after the storm transitions from snow to ice and rain.

Temperatures will be in the upper 20s.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 7 P.M. on Sunday through 6 p.m. on Monday.

The Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, which prepares crews and equipment ahead of a storm. Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to give a weather update at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Alternate side parking is suspended on Monday, but meters remain in effect.
