Arguably the biggest signing of the offseason is on tap for the New York Red Bulls with a team source telling Metro that a signing to the team’s backline is imminent.

Amir Murillo, a member of Panama’s national team, is set to sign with the Red Bulls a source tells Metro. A 21-year old right back, Murillo has been rumored to join the club for a couple weeks now, a move hinted at recently by WFAN’s Glenn Crooks who tweeted that a signing from Panama was forthcoming.

Despite just turning 21-years old last week, Murillo has already represented Panama nine times. He is a right back who boasts good size and moves forward well into the attack.

The team source said that the deal in a one-year loan with a club option to make permanent at the end of the season.

The signing of Murillo represents a significant addition to the team after what has been a quiet offseason for the team in terms of signings. The Red Bulls did make a trade last month, sending captain Dax McCarty to the Chicago Fire for a whopping $400,000, a handsome haul for a midfielder who just made an appearance with the national team earlier in February. McCarty was one of the longest tenured players on the team but the Red Bulls were able to bring in one of the largest allocation sums in league history to trade the fan favorite.

But outside of those moves, the twice-defending Eastern Conference champions have been relatively quiet.

Murillo helps address a position where the Red Bulls have struggled in recent years to find some stability. He comes from Panamanian club San Francisco, one of the giants of the domestic league.
