SpareRoom CEO ‘speed dating’ for roommates for luxury West Village apartment

They say you have seven seconds to make a first impression, so a few minutes is enough to find a roommate, right?

SpareRoom CEO and founder Rupert Hunt announced earlier this month that he is looking for two roommates to share his luxury West Village apartment. Part of the process includes “SpeedRoommating” on Wednesday as he searches for flat mates.

SpeedRoomating is SpareRoom’s version of speed dating, except instead of a sloppy good night kiss, you could end up with a roommate or a room. From 7 to 9 p.m. at The Winslow, Hunt will sit down and get to know people who are interested in paying $1 a month to live in his Bleecker Street apartment.

“When I first started sharing [an apartment], I thought it was all about shared interests, but I found it comes down to rapport,” Hunt told Metro in a previous interview.

If you aren’t one of the 6,000 applicants interested in Hunt’s apartment, you still have time to put your name in the hat (and maybe your name on the lease). Hunt has also invited some of the applicants to the event so he can meet with them face-to-face.

A spokesman for SpareRoom described the event as “a very casual setting at the bar where people can easily speak to anyone.” So bring ID.

“I’m not after roommates who just want cheap rent,” Hunt wrote in the apartment listing. “You’ll need to genuinely want to share with me – for your benefit as much as mine. The people you live with can be the difference between you dreading going home each day or having the time of your life. Even if this is the apartment of your dreams, I might be your roommate from hell… although I hope not.”
