Most of us can’t even think about our student loan debt without having an anxiety attack. The sheer amount many millennials in this country owe is staggering — $37,000 on average for the graduating class of 2016 — and then when you calculate the interest, if you can figure out the math, the burden can seem insurmountable. While the impulse is to deny, deny, deny — that will only be met with accrue, accrue, accrue.
It’s a national nightmare, and not the kind you can easily wake up from. Your debt is more like a ghost that will keep haunting you until you — err, pay it. If only it would ghost on you!
Scary stuff. But you’re not alone.
Tonight at Bed-Vyne Brew, you’ll find camaraderie and guidance at “Erase the millennial debt party.” From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bed-Stuy craft beer bar, representatives from Bridge Street Development Corp and the New York Legal Assistance Group will be on hand to answer your questions and offer strategies for managing your debt, while you enjoy complimentary snacks, drink specials and commiserating with the fellow broke folks of your generation. Drink a couple beers and face your fears! Don’t worry, it ~might~ be OK.
