Watch stairwell assault on 74-year-old Bronx man

Police are searching for a suspect in connection to an attempted robbery and assault against a 74-year-old man inside the stairwell of his building.

Around noon on Thursday, a man followed the victim into his building near the corner of Crotona Avenue and Claremont Parkway in the Claremont section of the Bronx, police reported. When the two were ascending the staircase, the suspect turned and assaulted the victim.

After pushing the 74-year-old down the stairs, the suspect attempted to steal his property, authorities added. The victim, who was later treated at Saint Barnabus Hospital, was able to struggle with the suspect, causing the perpetrator to run away.

Police described the suspect as a black man who was approximately 6-foot-3 with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, black shorts, black sneakers and a dark baseball hat.
