A water main broke Friday morning, flooding parts of Elmhurst, Queens.

Buildings, streets and sidewalks were flooded Friday morning, with water so high it swept up city trash cans,NBC New York reported.

The flooding centered around a construction site near Queens Boulevard and Broadway, NBC reported. Police said Queens Boulevard was closed in both directions between 51st Avenue and 55th Avenue.

“Avoid the area if possible,”the NYPD’s110thPrecinct said on its Twitter account.

The MTA said Q53 buses were being detoured, though no disruptions in train service was reported.

Construction equipment may have struck and ruptured the water main, according to preliminary reports.
