A woman who claimed to police that she was called a “terrorist” in a Manhattan slashing attack later told authorities she made up the entire incident.

The woman, a 20-year-old student at the Make-up Designory, had told police that an attacker approached her on Thursday afternoon near Trinity Church on Broadway by Wall Street, grabbing her arm and slashing her cheek, the New York Daily News reported.

The victim, who was wearing a headscarf, had told police that the attacker called her a “terrorist” during the supposed assault, NBC4 stated in a related article.

By Thursday evening, though, the woman was giving a different story to police, saying she sliced her own cheek, leaving a 2-inch cut on her face, the Daily News added.
