About 200 people in makeshift shelters

About 200 people remain in makeshift shelters three days after a six-alarm fire forced them from their Wellesley St. E. highrise.

About 200 people remain in makeshift shelters three days after a six-alarm fire forced them from their Wellesley St. E. highrise.

Rob Andrusevich, a spokesman for the city of Toronto, said officials still do not know when the more than 1,200 residents will be allowed to return to their homes.

Two receptions centres — one at a Wellesley St. community centre and another located on McCaul St. — are currently housing all those without a place to go.

Many residents are concerned about not having their identification.

The remaining residents, according to Andrusevich, are staying with friends and family.

“We continue to assess it day by day,” Andrusevich told a Star reporter.
