How do you deal with change and the turning points in your life? If you’re Emilie Delestrade of Vancouver, then the answer is, “Just fine, thank you very much.”

Emilie has changed her country, her culture, and her career – three times. She moved from her native France to Canada when her husband started a new job. She went from teaching to working as an environmental scientist in Vancouver. Then looking for something different, she changed her career once again when she decided to become a Doula.

A Doula provides support to new mothers in the delivery room. Emilie finds running her own Doula business has brought many challenges but the rewards have been great. “You can’t wait for people to come to you. You have to network and ask people how they did things.”

Emilie’s getting ready to change her life once again. She’s going to be a new mother in June. But when it comes to starting your own business she has these words of advice. “Don’t jump in right away. Build a solid plan that you can follow. And above all, believe in yourself”.
