TORONTO - Allstream has signed a three-year contract with Mobilicity to provide infrastructure service for the new cellphone company for its coverage zones in Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed in Monday's announcement.

"Allstream is pleased to continue our relationship with Mobilicity and provide its customers with reliable IP connectivity," Allstream president Dean Prevost said in a news release on Monday.

Toronto-based Mobilicty will use Allstream's Internet Protocol network as part of its own network infrastructure.

Mobilicity is one of several new wireless carriers that has launched in recent months, providing more competition to established players Rogers (TSX:RCI.B), Bell (TSX:BCE) and Telus (TSX:T).

"By leveraging Allstream's strong and stable IP backbone network, we're ensuring our customers receive a superior mobile experience," said Sharyn Gravelle, Mobilicity's vice-president of network operations.

Allstream is a business unit of MTS Allstream Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (TSX:MBT).
