Vancouver’s lone NPA councillor boomeranged on her stance on the Hornby Street separated bike lane after accusing City Hall of playing host to a kangaroo council.
Work began on the lane Wednesday — only hours after council approved the $3.2-million project.
Coun. Suzanne Anton said the prepared signage, work-crew logistics and street marking, done a day before the vote, are evidence that staff was directed to begin work on the lane prior to Tuesday’s vote.
“It’s crystal clear to me now that Tuesday’s council meeting was a mere formality,” said Anton in a release, noting that she withdraws her support for the bike lane and plans to submit a motion to rescind it.
In response, Vision Vancouver issued its own statement, in which Coun. Geoff Meggs accused Anton of the “fastest flip-flop” in the history of city council.
