Ambience: The Brownstone has long been a favourite of downtown residents for its eclectic and inviting atmosphere, solid meal choices and satisfying cocktail list. The patio is a real drawing card in summer, but it’s the people that make this such a worthwhile spot to spend an evening.

Crowd: Expect to find patrons in their mid-20s to early-30s, with a few mature locals thrown into the mix. Many venture here with large groups of friends making for a fun atmosphere on busy nights.

Dress code: Keep it casual, with a few personal style accents added to your sartorial choices to keep things lively.

Will I get lucky?: Unlikely, but like so many restaurant-bars of this nature, the Brownstone is a great place to bring a date. Stop by one night and notice the many couples discussing their stories over candlelit tables if you need proof.

Should I dance on the bar?: Absolutely not.

Best reason to pay a visit: The patio, weather permitting.

Cocktail du jour: Cocktails, wine and draught beer are largely the drinks of choice for most who make the Brownstone their home away from home. The wine list is limited, but sufficient, as is the cocktail list — their mimosas and sangria are definitely worth a try. Watch for drink specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Hours:
Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
