On November 27 1997, America’s beloved purple dinosaur went to the ground but did not get back up. During the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the Barney balloon was killed by a stab wound from a light post.
High winds caused balloon handlers to lose control of the balloon causing it to sail off course and crash into a light post.
During the video, you can hear people scream when the massive balloon deflates hits the light post and goes to the ground.
